How to Facilitate an Enneagram Workshop
A meaningful Enneagram workshop isn't simply a presentation about nine personality types.
Your role as a facilitator is to help participants recognize their own patterns, become curious about the people around them, and begin applying what they're learning to actual working relationships.
That means balancing three things:
Teach
Give people enough understanding of the Enneagram to begin recognizing meaningful differences in motivation, perspective, communication, and behavior.
Discuss
Create opportunities for participants to hear from one another instead of learning everything from the person standing at the front of the room.
Apply
Help the group connect what they're learning to meetings, communication, conflict, leadership, collaboration, feedback, and everyday interactions.
The goal isn't for everyone to become an Enneagram expert.
The goal is to give people language they can continue using after the workshop ends.

Enneagram Workshop Agendas
One of the hardest parts of facilitating your first Enneagram workshop is deciding what to include.
There is always more you could teach.
The challenge is deciding what this particular audience needs.
Sample 2-Hour Enneagram Workshop
A simple introductory structure might include:
Before the Workshop
Participants complete their assessment or typing preparation, receive introductory communication, and optionally answer a few questions about what they hope to gain from the experience.
Learn
Introduce the Enneagram, explore the nine types, and help participants begin noticing differences in motivation, strengths, communication, and workplace patterns.
Discuss
Move from teaching into participant conversation through individual reflection, type groups, paired conversations, or team discussion.
Apply
Give the group at least one practical way to continue using what they've learned once they return to work.

Before You Build Your Workshop
Before opening PowerPoint or Canva, answer three questions.
1. Who is in the room?
A senior leadership team needs something different from a department attending a retreat.
Consider the group's:
-
roles
-
relationships
-
familiarity with the Enneagram
-
workplace challenges
-
reason for gathering
2. What do you want them to walk away understanding?
You do not have to teach everything you know.
Decide what matters most for this particular group.
3. What do you want them to do differently afterward?
This is where information becomes development.
Maybe you want participants to ask better questions.
Maybe the team needs language for discussing differences.
Maybe managers need to understand how differently employees can interpret the same situation.
Design backward from that outcome.
Enneagram Workshop Activities & Discussion
You don't have to fill a workshop with elaborate exercises to make it interactive.
Some of the most useful activities simply create opportunities for participants to talk to one another.
Consider including:
-
Type-based breakout groups
-
Mixed-type discussion groups
-
Workplace reflection questions
-
“How to work with me” conversations
-
Strengths and overused-strength discussions
-
Communication preference comparisons
-
Team-map observations
-
Small-group case studies
-
Post-workshop application conversations
A useful facilitation question is:
Where in my agenda are participants learning from one another rather than only learning from me?

Facilitating the Enneagram in the Workplace
Facilitating the Enneagram inside an organization is different from teaching it purely for personal development.
Participants are constantly translating what they learn into questions like:
-
Why does my coworker approach this so differently?
-
Why does my manager communicate this way?
-
Why do certain situations create tension between us?
-
Why do some people need more information before acting?
-
Why does one person want a decision while another wants more discussion?
-
How can we work together more effectively?
That is why workplace facilitation should move beyond type descriptions.
The Enneagram becomes most useful when it gives people a shared language for understanding the relationships that already exist around the work.

Enneagram Facilitator FAQ
Do I need to be certified to facilitate an Enneagram workshop?
There is no single universal certification required to discuss or facilitate the Enneagram. However, anyone facilitating groups should have a strong understanding of the model, understand the limitations of assessments, avoid assigning types to participants, and facilitate the framework responsibly.
Additional training can be especially valuable if you plan to use the Enneagram professionally with workplace teams.
What is Enneagram facilitator training?
Enneagram facilitator training can refer to several different kinds of professional development. Some programs teach the Enneagram model itself or lead to certification. Others focus more specifically on how to teach, present, or facilitate the Enneagram with groups.
Knowing the Enneagram and knowing how to facilitate a meaningful group experience require overlapping but different skills.
How do I become an Enneagram facilitator?
Start by developing a strong foundation in the Enneagram itself. Then build skills in group facilitation, workshop design, questioning, discussion management and workplace application.
Practice is also important. Facilitation develops by working with real groups, observing how people respond, and continually refining the experience.
How long should an Enneagram workshop be?
An introductory Enneagram workshop can work in approximately two hours, although a half-day format provides more room for discussion, reflection, activities and workplace application.
The right length depends on your goals, the group's prior Enneagram experience and how much interaction you want to build into the session.
What should an Enneagram workshop include?
A workplace Enneagram workshop will commonly include an introduction to the model, an overview of the nine types, opportunities for personal reflection, participant discussion and practical application to working relationships.
The strongest agenda isn't necessarily the one containing the most Enneagram information. It's the one designed around what the group needs to understand and do differently afterward.
What activities work well in an Enneagram workshop?
Type-group discussions, workplace reflection prompts, mixed-type conversations, communication comparisons, team-map observations, case studies and “how to work with me” exercises can all work well.
The goal of an activity should be to deepen understanding or conversation—not simply make the workshop interactive.
Can I use someone else's Enneagram workshop materials with paying clients?
That depends on the licensing terms of the individual materials. Purchasing or downloading workshop materials does not automatically give someone the right to reproduce, modify or use them commercially.
The Enneagram MBA Facilitator Kit offers a Commercial License specifically for coaches, consultants and facilitators who want to customize and use the materials in paid client work.
Keep Growing as an Enneagram Facilitator
