Run Your Own Enneagram Workshop

More and more companies are interested in adding the Enneagram into their leadership and team development programs, but many aren’t sure where to start, how to structure it, or how to make it work within their budget.

If you can relate, I got you.

You don’t need a massive program or outside facilitator to get meaningful value from the Enneagram. With a simple, practical structure, you can run a meaningful team workshop internally, without overcomplicating it.

Whether you’re an HR partner, team leader, or internal champion, here’s a straightforward framework you can use to get started.

Step 1: Start with a Simple Enneagram Assessment

Before the workshop, give participants a chance to reflect on their own type.

You have a few options:

The goal isn’t perfect typing, it’s self-reflection. Encourage people to come into the session with curiosity about their motivations, stress patterns, and communication style.

Typing Tip: Let participants choose 1–2 likely types instead of forcing a single answer. This creates better conversations and less pressure.

Step 2: Teach the Core Enneagram Concepts

Keep your content focused and practical. You don’t need to teach everything. An hour of content is usually plenty to kick off meaningful and helpful insights and conversations (more on that in Step 3).

Cover:

  • What the Enneagram is (briefly)
  • The 9 types at work
  • Motivation vs behavior
  • Workplace pet peeves & preferences
  • Strengths and overused strengths of each type

Your goal is shared language and real-world application, not expert-level theory.

Step 3: Build in Real Team Conversations

This is where the magic happens! In the workshops we lead at Enneagram MBA this is often the most memorable and helpful part of the whole session.

Instead of just presenting slides, give people space to talk:

“What resonated with you?”

“What surprised you?”

“Where do you see this playing out at work?”

Allowing sharing after presenting each type and/or small group discussions work especially well and help people feel seen, not labeled.

Step 4: Assign Post-Workshop “Funwork”

Learning sticks when people use it.

After the session, assign light reflection activities like:

  • “How to work with me” prompts
  • Pair conversations
  • One insight they want to test in real life

This keeps the Enneagram alive beyond the workshop and turns insight into action.

Step 5: Create a Team Map

Have each person share their likely type(s) and build a simple visual team map.

Then look for:

  • Clusters (lots of similar types)
  • Gaps (missing perspectives)
  • Leadership dynamics
  • Communication patterns

This helps teams see their collective strengths and opportunities for growth.

Step 6: Schedule a Follow-Up Session

The most impactful workshops always include a follow-up.

30–60 days later, revisit:

What stuck with you the most?

What changes have you noticed?

Where did the Enneagram actually help?

This is often where the deepest insights and real behavior shifts happen.

Want the Done-for-You Version?

Everything you just read can be built from scratch, but people could spend 20+ hours researching the Enneagram, creating slides, and second-guessing their content.

That’s why the DIY Enneagram Workshop Kit was created.

It’s a professionally built, workplace-specific version of this exact framework, designed for leaders, HR partners, and internal champions who want to run a meaningful Enneagram workshop without reinventing the wheel.

The kit includes:

  • Ready-to-use slide deck
  • Facilitator notes and talking points
  • Team discussion prompts
  • Post-workshop activities
  • A clear structure you can confidently follow
  • Plus...a bonus call with a member of Enneagram MBA to help plan your specific event and answer any questions

It’s the same methodology I use with corporate clients, packaged so you can run it yourself.

If you value your time and want something built specifically for real teams and workplaces, the DIY Kit is the easiest place to start.

Some Frequently Asked Questions...

Can anyone run an Enneagram workshop?
Yes! Especially for internal team development. You don’t need to be certified, but you do need a clear structure and practical content.

Do I need a paid Enneagram assessment?
Not necessarily. Free quizzes can work for awareness. Paid assessments add depth, but reflection matters more than precision.

How long should an Enneagram team workshop be?
Anywhere from 90 minutes to a half day works well, depending on your goals and group size.

What’s the biggest mistake people make?
Overcomplicating it. Too much theory, not enough conversation.

The most powerful Enneagram workshops are simple, practical, and focused on real human dynamics at work.
